May 2010

My son is now happily married and in bliss .  . . at least for now. Reality may set in soon but truly he married just the right woman for him. I'm so happy for them.

My middle son just spent a month backpacking and traveling around Europe. He's home now with wonderful stories and happy to be near his girlfriend again.

My youngest got his license the end of February and spends much of his time skiing or photographing skiing.

What's new with you?? Time flies. Family is important. They grow up FAST!!

Don't wait to develop your house into a HOME for your family. Start today. Get help if you need to. Do it. I don't care if your kids are one or eighteen. A comfortable home that's lovely to look at shouldn't be something for the future. Let your kids grow up now with a sense of beauty, comfort, function and style.

There will NEVER be enough time or money. Start today.

February 2010

My son, Cameron, is getting married in less than three weeks. Eeeeek!! I'm thrilled to be gaining a fabulous daughter-in-law, Kate. There's so much to be done before the wedding. I had no idea. Decorations, flowers, clothes, rehearsal dinner at my house . . . and the list goes on. For those of you who are current clients thank you for your patience. I'm slow right now but once March hits I plan to get back on track and not be so distracted. Family is a good distraction though, right? I hope all of you are enjoying your families and the distractions that they are. It's good. Real good. I love my family and feel so blessed.  It's hard to believe the wedding day will soon be here. Yippee!!

December 2009

OK. OK. So it's almost 2010 with just four days to go. It's still December, people, so I'm titling this entry "December" rather than January. Deal with it. :)
I'm thinking 2010 is going to be a better year in the design/decor world. The economy seems to be picking up a little, maybe just enough for people to start enhancing their homes a bit since they still won't have loads of cash to take exotic vacations and instead will still be "staycationing" in their homes. 2009 was a slow year in the interior design world and I thoroughly enjoyed the slower pace of work but now I'm excited to really get going again. Need any help? If nothing else, maybe you just need a room or two rearranged, including rehanging the artwork. If that's the case, please call. I LOVE to do that. Need a new sofa or chair? Ooo how I'd love to order some new upholstery pieces for you. I have all sorts of price ranges so don't hesitate to ask. Happy New Year . . . (in four days).

October 2009

Work has been slow for the past year. It's given me time to reflect on some things and enjoy daily life a bit more. It makes me appreciate YOU, my clients and friends even more. Thank you for your faith and trust in me. I realize what a gift it has been to have worked in your homes for 9 years now. I'll be starting my 10th year in business next month. Can you believe it? I can't! It's thrilling for me to realize that fact and acknowledge that so much of it had to do with the kind people along the way . . . clients with excitement AND patience, vendors who treated me with respect when an order went wrong, designer role models, family who supported me through tough times, friends who believed in me. I'm sure there have been folks in your life that have meant as much. Take a moment to reflect and be thankful. Tis the season. Right?

July 2009

God's color schemes are everywhere. Recently I had a sunset photo printed that my son, Spencer, took and a mountain/stream photo my son, Riley, took. All three of my sons are great photographers! The mountain photo had a vibrant scheme of different blues and greens with white accents and the sunset photo was filled with blacks/oranges and yellows. Both photos were stunning and reflected not only colors but texture differences . . . another subject! If you are having trouble with color for your home open your eyes and look around at nature. See the amazing color palettes right in front of you? Thank God for them and let them inspire you.

May 2009

Get going! I think that's my advice for this month. Of course, I'm speaking to myself here too. We ALL have little tasks and big tasks we've let slide. I plan to cross off a few things on my list this month. Don't have time to paint those three rooms. Start with one wall today, wrap up the roller and stick it in the freezer. Next week when you have a free afternoon paint another wall.  (Take the roller out ahead of time to thaw) Eventually it gets done. We all can't FINISH projects in a day so tackle a little bit at a time. and they will get done. Get going, that's all I'm saying folks.

April 2009

I will host a booth at the Clark County Home and Garden Show  from April 23-26 at the fairgrounds. I'm sharing the booth with another designer; her business name is "Divine Interiors".  So, I will only be there some of the time but if you happen to be at the show be sure to look for me and say hello if I'm in my booth when you are there.

Area Rugs:

As you all know I am a huge believer in area rugs. They fill a room with pizazz and style and bring that homey, cozy, FINISHED feel to a room. And yes, put one over your wall to wall carpeting too. It will pull a space together without all the furniture having that floating feeling in a room.

I have a new catalog of Surya area rugs.  Great designs. Go to www.Surya.com to check out the MANY choices. There are lots of different quality levels available so there will be price points across the spectrum from low to high. Call me with questions and for pricing.

Also, March 5 through 22 there is a huge sale going on at Tufenkian Artisan Carpets in downtown Portland (515 NW 10th). March 5th and 6th are designer preview days so I would have to be with you on those days if you want to take an early peek at what will be for sale. Tufenkian rugs are my personal favorite and will last more than a lifetime! They are truly works of art and Tufenkian practices fair trade. Please mention Lorraine Interiors should you go in. Thanks!! You won't be sorry.

February 2009

My youngest son turns 15 in less than a week. I'd love to give him a HUGE birthday gift like a new sectional in our basement so he can watch movies in comfort. He'd  love that! What about you? Any upholstered furniture needs? I'm opening an account with a local furniture manufacturer that makes a lower priced product. Times are a bit tough now financially for many of us so I thought offering this line might be helpful. If you are looking to add some new pieces to your home but the budget it tight give me a call and we can look at the Mastercraft line of furniture through catalogs and fabric samples. A sit test may be possible as well. Happy new year!

December 2008

It's been too long. So sorry! I just mailed out many cards and greetings for the holidays. You, of all people, are the ones I want to wish "Happy Holidays" and "Merry Christmas"! This time of year makes me realize more than ever how important our homes are to our families. I love curling up in my living room on days like this when the snow is falling so beautifully. Hopefully your space is comfortable and cozy too. You KNOW I'd be happy to work with you if you are feeling the need to update or change anything. It gives me great pleasure to create comfort and beauty in your homes and mine. As a tip, remember to always have a soft and beautiful blanket throw in your living room and family room for someone to curl up with. Go with a color that accents the other colors nicely. Not much cost but a big look of comfort even if you don't use it!

June 2008

Organization. How are you at it? With summer around the corner I feel the urge to organize and purge. Clear plastic containers are the best for storing things so you can see what you have.  In fact, I like lots of "clear" things for summer. How about incorporating glass items into your summer decor. It has a light and clean feeling while adding a little sparkle. Pull out some crystal bowls and float a flower or two. Do you have any glass floats from the beach? Pull those out and lay them around. Do a little tablescape using lots of different glass vases . . . you don't even need to fill them. Let the vases themselves be the focus.

Happy June, friends!

May 2008

Wow, May is almost over and I'm just now getting on my site to update. In the paper the other day I saw a cute "do it yourself" design idea for those on a tight budget. Buy LP Album frames, several of them, and insert pretty design paper or a different fabric into each one and then hang them in a group so it is as if they are one large piece of art. It's lovely and brings color and pattern into a room that may need a pick-me-up. The best thing is that it's super budget friendly!

For those of you looking for some art pieces that are new and fresh, check out www.ashtoncompany.com and then contact me for pricing. It's a fabulous website with scads of different art categories and it can all be ordered through me. Thanks for looking!

April 2008

This month I have officially moved out of the Divine Interiors design center back to working exclusively out of my home office which is detached from the house. This works great. I still plan to be at the design center frequently and at times will meet with clients there but my desk and paperwork will be at my home office. I'm thrilled about the change. It's good for my family and for me. I feel rejuvenated and energized, excited about my job again. Working one on one with each of my clients is a joy. Thank you for your trust in me. Interior decorating and design is something that feeds my soul and you've allowed me to work at something I love. Please continue to refer me. Your referrals mean the world to me and keep me in this business. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

By the way . . . my phone number remains the same  360-910-4586.
